About
Iyengar Yoga
“Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.” B.K.S. Iyengar
Iyengar yoga is based on the life and teaching of B.K.S. Iyengar (1918 - 2014). It is a system of teaching that focusses on the alignment of the body and the actions needed in each pose. Students follow a framework that allow you to build your practice from a solid base. Supports such as belts, blocks and blankets are used to help students get into the pose and to stay there for longer. This use of support means that the practice is safe and accessible to anyone, no matter what your age, experience or physical ability and poses are sequenced to bring physical and mental balance. Teachers are trained and supported by an extensive ongoing system of professional development. Iyengar Yoga is the most practiced form of yoga in the world. In a life full of speed, stress and distraction, it’s teachings help us to reclaim an energised body and a calm mind.
Me
I discovered yoga in my mid twenties and was immediately drawn to the sense of feeling at ease it gave me, both in mind and body.
I had tried a number of different yoga teaching systems before I went to an Iyengar Yoga class. Straight away I loved the structured system that Iyengar Yoga teaching provides. Whatever your starting point, the framework provides you with a path to follow and shows you how to safely develop your practice..
The beauty of Iyengar Yoga is that it really is for everyone.
I am based in Bristol where I live with my family. With a previous career working for large corporations I understand the impact that today’s pace of life brings. I am passionate about helping students find a moment of calm in their busy lives and also to help them challenge themselves - and I feel privileged to share their yoga journey with them.
